Pr Yanai earned his PhD in bioinformatics from Boston University, worked as a postdoc at the Weizmann Institute then at Harvard University, and was previously on the faculty of the Technion Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa In 2016 he became Professor at NYU Grossman School of medicine The Yanai Lab investigates biological processes through global gene expression, pioneering methods like CEL Seq for single cell transcriptomics and uncovering key evolutionary insights into development, gene regulation, and cell states Their research has revealed universal principles such as the mid developmental transition across animal species and mechanisms like transcriptional scanning that shape gene evolution The lab also develops widely used computational tools and applies spatial and single cell transcriptomics to study cancer, host pathogen interactions, and tissue organization.
